A lip bumper that blocks lower lip pressure to stimulate uprighting of the lower molars and arch development. Structure: a lip bumper body (plate type or ball-ended wire) with fixed or removable connections, positioned in the labial vestibule of the lower anterior teeth. The removable version has six round-headed protrusions on the labial side, with a horseshoe-shaped coloured acrylic base extending along the lingual arch and clasps visible in the posterior region. By isolating the lower lip from the lower incisors it removes abnormal muscle pressure and redistributes vestibular forces, promoting mesial uprighting of the molars and gaining arch space. Indications: lower anterior crowding, mesially tipped molars with space loss, hyperactive lower lip. Made to model; available in plug-in, one-piece, ball-ended wire and removable forms.
