Cotton roll substitutes hold up to 30 times their own weight in saliva, far outlasting cotton rolls and other absorbent pads, and they do not lose moisture when handled. They work as an effective replacement for rubber dams: the polyethylene film gives complete coverage of the parotid orifice and the entire buccal mucosa with cutting protection, and facilitates work far back in the oral cavity. No loose fibres or other residues are left in the mouth, the pad is flexible enough to accommodate cheek movement, stays comfortably in place and is easily removed with a water spray.
